Rebecca Magner (nee Trotman) is a contemporary British landscape artist. She lives in Devon with her husband and two children and works from her home studio. She loves to walk in, and photograph, her local area, drawing inspiration from the varied landscapes: rural, estuarine, coastal, agricultural and industrial.
Using references from photographs, sketches and memories from her walks, Rebecca’s paintings evolve through a messy, exploratory process of building up layers, scraping back, reworking and drawing into. The initial layers are energetic and imperfect. The painting gradually evolves through quieter observation and a deeper understanding of her subject matter.
The finished painting is achieved when the relationships between the subject, materials and process have found resolution; a process that always takes months and sometimes years.
Prior to moving to Devon, Rebecca painted from her studio at her Sussex home, nestled in ancient woodland. Much of her work depicts her response to special places from her home county, East Sussex; The South Downs; Cuckmere Haven; rivers, estuaries and lakes; wildflower meadows, farm-tracks, grain silos and cow-sheds and her favourite sea-swimming spots.
Rebecca produces original oil and mixed media paintings, limited edition Giclee prints and greeting cards. Email Rebecca for details about original paintings, commissions and prints.
